Ralph Waldo Emerson Gifts

Where’s Waldo? He’s in Boston, Massachusetts. Well, he was born in Massachusetts. And the name ‘Waldo’ is book-ended by the names ‘Ralph’ and ‘Emerson.’ This American essayist, poet and philosopher was born on May 25, 1803. In the early 19th century, he became the leader of the Transcendentalist movement. The big idea behind transcendentalism is that one could only achieve an ideal spiritual state that transcended the physical and tangible through one’s intuition, rather than doctrines of established regions. Emerson and other like-minded intellectuals founded the Transcendental Club in September of 1836. The club published its journal, The Dial, four years later, for which Emerson contributed essays. He died on April 27, 1882. He is considered to be one of the greatest orators and philosophers of all time.

“Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.”

“A friend is one before whom I may think aloud.”

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could.”
