 | Charlie Chaplin Gifts Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin—better known as Charlie Chaplin—was born on April 16, 1889. He was part of a multi-talented family, so it was only natural that he would learn the ways of entertainment. He is famous for his role as The Tramp: a vice-filled vagrant with perfect gentlemanly manners. Charlie made quite a splash in Hollywood cinema as a screenplay writer, producer, actor, director, and eventually a composer who scored his own films. His miming contained such expertise that he was thought of as a magician, and, as a true man of magic, he rarely spoke of his film-making methods, arguing that it would be like telling the secrets to his tricks. He was very particular about the actual filming process. He would only have a vague stage direction in his scripts. Then, it was during the actual filming when brainstorming business would occur. This is one reason why his films always took so much longer to produce. He was a perfectionist, and took pains to school fellow actors to create the looks and moves that he had envisioned. Charlie Chaplin died on Christmas day in the year 1977. He is considered one of the finest mimes of all time.

“A day without laughter is a day wasted.”
“I do not have much patience with a thing of beauty that must be explained to be understood. If it does need additional interpretation by someone other than the creator, then I question whether it has fulfilled its purpose.”
“Laughter is the tonic, the relief, the surcease for pain.” |
