Johann Sebastian Bach Gifts

This German composer was born on March 21, 1685. Music ran in his blood: his father was an organist at St. Joseph’s Church, and taught him at an early age to how to play the violin and the harpsichord. His uncles were also musical, and it was one such uncle—-Johann Christoph Bach—-who introduced him to the art of organ playing. Bach’s love for music led him to write numerous pieces such as The Well-Tempered Clavier, The Goldberg Variations, and many other canons, arias, and fugues. Bach crafted a style all his own. He had a knack for musical improvisation, and incorporated South German, North German, Italian and French music into his pieces. Bach passed away on July 28, 1750. Today, he is considered one of the greatest composers of all time.

"It’s easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself."

"If I decide to be an idiot, then I’ll be an idiot of my own accord."

"The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul."
