Shakespeare's Den Back To School Newsletter 2007

"The teeming autumn, big with rich increase, bear[s] the wanton burden of the prime."
Check out the Shakespeare's Den to stock up on more intelligent school gear and become the object of envy in every classroom you enter. Who knows, maybe you'll even look suave enough to receive a sonnet or two?

What better way to decorate your dorm room than with famous quotes denouncing the importance of education? The College Magnetic Poetry Kit is chock full of education related words and phrases that will stick to anything from your refrigerator to your computer, though I should warn you that sticking magnets to your computer can lead to terrible, terrible things for which Shakespeare's Den will take absolutely no responsibility.

Replace your school pride shirt with our Bard of Avon tee, your Five Star notebook with our "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…" reversible journal, and your sports cap with a Sorting Hat, and you, my friend, are prepared to be the coolest cat that ever hit that school!

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…"

Dickens World, a themed attraction based on the life and works of beloved novelist Charles Dickens, opened in Kent, England on May 25, 2007. Although the attraction features rides, such as the “Great Expectations” log flume, Dickens World’s primary purpose is to act as a recreation of life in Victorian England. So take your Dickens, Oscar Wilde, and Sherlock Holmes action figures and head back to turn of the century England to see firsthand how your heroes lived.

Great Thinkers & Education

With school starting up, it got us thinking about what great minds throughout history thought about education.

“Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught.” -Oscar Wilde

In The Movies

Is Shakespeare timeless?

That is the question in Bobby Ciraldo and Andrew Swant’s independent film Hamlet A.D.D. This comedic adaptation of the classic tragedy follows Hamlet on his journey for revenge and through time. Beginning in 1602 and traveling to the far future, Hamlet A.D.D. is sure to be, if nothing else, an interesting version of the celebrated tale.
